Morlond's Field

One of the twelve realms destroyed in the Vampyric Wars.

The Insanity

Morlond's Field was a rarity among the twelve realms in that every member of its population was insane. Some blamed a twist in the Elmether, some the deadly enchanted teas distributed long ago by the Enchanted Lunchladies Guild, still others poor breeding habits. Either way, from farmer's hallucinating about Dolphinthropes in the fields to princes believing they were in fact the reincarnation of Harbinger Portent, not a single one had their head screwed on right.

Oddly enough, from a historical perspective nothing altogether idiosyncratic happened in Morlond's Field in comparison to the other twelve realms.

At the outbreak of the Vampyric Wars, many able bodied Morlond's Fielders left their homes and hearths in search of battle, adventure, and glory.

A third of those who left home ended up in their neighbour's garden, battling the dreaded troughberries.

Another third made their way to Vhadxi and asked him if they could join his army of the unliving.

The last third managed to combine themselves with the other armies of the twelve realms and provided the most dangerous infantry one could find in such a troubled age. Provided that you could convince them that the ground wasn't breakfast and that clouds wouldn't eat them.

Due to the insanity of the populace Morlondian self rule was impossible. Over a tenth of the peasantry believe themselves to be King of Morlond's Field, and most kings of the land were under the delusion of being peasants. Somehow another tenth of the peasantry manages to delusionally believe that they are peasants.

Morlond's affairs with the other twelve realms are controlled by The Eyuda who have no difficulty operating in the land due to the fact that their cryptic remarks can mean anything, and hence fit with any madness the populace may have. Critics of The Eyuda suggest their presence as a possible cause of the lands madness. The other major theory for the origin of the madness is that one of the Hierarchs created the land based on the contents of a Drawer of Chansing.

The Aftermath

Due to the general chaos in Morlond's Field, this realm was actually one of the first to recover after the end of the Vampyric Wars. Awakening from their madness as if from a dream, the people of Morlond's Field said one unto another, "What were we thinking?"

Even though no centralized government arose, many peaceful and sleepy hamlets arose on the gentle sloping grasslands of the field, and even during the ravages and uncertainty of The Wandering Age, this region was relatively free of strife. A series of autonomous governing townships arose across the fields, and this system remained in place even through the rise of the elemenstors.

Well-known Townships:

Interestingly, due to the history of the region madness is extremely well tolerated, perhaps even admired.
